Hello folks, and now, I bring you a rant that has ABSO-POSI-LUTELY NOTHING to do with Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. Thank god, cause if I have to make another "rant" regarding that game, I think I'd have to start a zombie apocalypse with some 245 - Trioxin. Instead, this rant is going to be on the subject of a game that has been the subject of tons of controversy.

If your a fan of Capcom, you'll probably be familiar with the famous hack-n'-slash franchise known as Devil May Cry. Well, in September 2010, Capcom officially announced that there would be a new Devil May Cry installment in the series. It would be an origin story that established how Dante, the main protagonist of the series, came to grips with his half-demon half-human heritage, and Capcom would outsource the game to Ninja Theory, a company known for only 2 major titles: Heavenly Sword and Enslaved.

With the announcement came a few screenshots and a trailer of the game. In the 4 Devil May Cry titles before this, Dante had slightly long white hair and a normally clean face. In the screenshots and trailer, however, he sports short black hair, and his face now has a few bruises here and there. Also worth noting is the fact that he smokes.

Now, think back a year earlier to September 2009. It was that time that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 was announced and had a teaser trailer. One certain individual known, at the time, as Aknotholeresident made a video showing his initial reaction to the trailer. In short, he was not pleased with not only the trailer, but Sonic 4 as a whole, stating the fact that Sega used the modern Sonic model as his reason.

Well, when Dante's new design was revealed, the fans' reactions were roughly the same as Aknot-headed nutcase's. In fact, they were furious. They constantly bitched and moaned about the design, claiming that the game would suck because of Dante's character design and blaming both Capcom and Ninja Theory.

Now, I was furious as well, but for different reasons. I wasn't mad at Capcom or Ninja Theory, and I wasn't upset about the character design for Dante. Rather, I was upset at the people who were upset at the character design. You see, unlike most idiots who make a big deal of things when it comes to video games, I'm willing to look past something as trivial as a character design.

Back when I first joined deviantART, I wasn't on this BatCountryDouche account. I was instead on an account called TheChris9000. I was a complete and total noob back then, so all I did was upload stupid shit such as demotivational posters (pretty much stuff you'll find by looking in my Scrap bin). With my second demotivational poster, I ranted in the description about how stupid the Devil May Cry fans were acting. Fortunately for me, I didn't conjure a negative response.

So, it's about a year later. New games have been announced, new gameplay has been shown, I'm now on a new account thanks to some e-drama that I'd rather not discuss...

... and yet, everyone's still on square one... I still stand by what I said... and everyone feels exactly the same way.

Why are people still complaining about this bullshit? I honestly have no fucking idea why the Devil May Cry fans are so hellbent on letting everyone know that this game will "suck" (and I use that term EXTREMELY loosely).

Are we really reaching a point in video gaming where character designs determine whether or not a game will be good and fun? It's almost as if gameplay (which is the REAL factor behind a game being good) doesn't matter anymore. I believe that James Rolfe, the Angry Video Game Nerd, said it best when he stated this in his Power Glove review and Atari 5200 review:

What's the most important aspect of any fucking game? Well, being able to fucking play it.

I really should've seen this coming ever since Devil May Cry 4. Why? Well, turns out that DmC isn't the first time that the Devil May Cry fans have shown some stupidity. When Devil May Cry 4 came out, fans were outraged at the fact that the game would have an Xbox 360 port. However, it's STILL not as bad as what the fans are complaining about NOW.

Of course, fans will say that Dante looks like one of the guys at Ninja Theory, and will cite it as a reason why the game will suck. My response is: ............ so?

This isn't the first time that a character has had his or her design based off of someone in real life. Remember Solid Snake from Metal Gear? His body and physique were based off of actors such as Jean-Claude Van Damme. Take a look at Samanosuke from Onimusha (which is ANOTHER franchise from Capcom). His voice actor's face was used for his character model. And for one last example, Jean-Claude Van Damme's appearance was used for Johnny Cage from Mortal Kombat.

So, yeah... there really shouldn't be a problem with basing Dante's new appearance off of someone at Ninja Theory.

Also, the very fact that Ninja Theory is making the game is enough to piss a fan off. Honestly, I don't get what's so bad about Ninja Theory. Not counting that one game (its name escapes me at the moment) that they made as Just Add Monsters, so far, Ninja Theory has only made two games (one of which was pretty good [Heavenly Sword], while the other I haven't played [Enslaved]). Granted, they might not be on the same level as Capcom, but they're sure as hell no LJN.

Well, there's my "rant" on DmC. If the fans don't stop bitching about DmC and Dante's new character design, then I can safely say that there's no hope for the fanbase.
Just letting out some steam here.

I'm calling it now. Someone's gonna call me stupid and troll me for defending New Dante.
